Doolan welcomes Friends of the Earth to IrelandPublished: 20 October, 2004 Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, today welcomed the launch of Friends of the Earth in Ireland, "Friends of the Earth have long played an important role in highlighting the need for environmental sustainability. Their campaigning and input in to the debate here in Ireland is a welcome development."Attending today's launch in Dublin Castle, Councillor Doolan said: "Here in Ireland, as in much of the world, we face serious environmental challenges. Waste management, GM foods and proposed incinerators are but a few of the challenges that we must overcome, and Friends of the Earth have a track record second to none in highlighting and campaigning on these issues. If we do not work together to overcome these challenges the consequences are too dire to contemplate. The environment and it's protection must become the central core of our vision for the future and a central part of our economic development. " Cllr. Doolan concluded, "Sinn Féin very much looks forward to working with Friends of the Earth in developing and applying solutions to ensure Ireland becomes a leading light in building a society based on economic and environmental sustainability." ENDS The launch of Friends of the Earth Ireland takes place today at noon in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle Dublin 2. |
