Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, speaking ahead of today's Comhairle Na nÓg gathering, said it was vital that, "politicians engage with, listen to and act on young person's concerns. Today will give me a unique opportunity to hear at first hand the issues facing young people in Dublin."

Councillor Doolan said:

"Comhairle Na nÓg has become the voice of young people. It represents 100's of organisations and groups across the capital. Today will allow these young people to debate the issues that count in their lives. It will also give politicians the opportunity to listen and hear at first hand these debates.

Young people live in challenging times and they have a wealth of talent to offer the policy makers in this city. To ensure that we make the right decisions on their behalf we must first listen and then be sure to act, and today will be the start of that process."

Cllr. Doolan concluded by calling on the political institutions, "to open their doors and their ears to young people. We have a lot to learn from their experiences and they offer us the best opportunity to solve many of the problems of tomorrow."  ENDS

Comhairle Na nÓg will be meeting in The Ark, Eustace Street, 10:15am - 3pm.
