Doolan supports residents taking to the streetsPublished: 30 September, 2004 Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan is supporting the residents of an inner city community taking to the streets in their campaign for road safety.Councillor Doolan said: "The residents of York Street and Mercer Street will be blocking the traffic from 4pm today in an attempt to highlight the need for comprehensive traffic calming measures for their community. This action is part of a campaign that has had my full active support since it began last Friday. The protest is borne out of frustration and concern particularly for children who are at risk of the high volume of traffic that passes through this part on the inner city. I will be raising the issue with the City Manager at next week's City Council meeting and I am sure he will be left in no doubt of the need for traffic calming in this part of Dublin." Cllr. Doolan concluded by calling on the City Manager, "to ensure that this community are allowed to live in safety and that traffic safety is dealt with as a matter of urgency before it is simply too late." ENDS The residents protest will take place at 4pm this afternoon at the junction of York Street & Mercer Street (behind the St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre). |
