Doolan welcomes Christmas tree pilot schemePublished: 13 December, 2005
Sinn Fein Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithi Doolan claimed, "discarded Christmas trees on our streets and roads could well become a thing of the past here in Dublin." Speaking today, Cllr. Doolan said,"an initiative to collect and recycle Christmas trees once the festive season is over is a new scheme being piloted by Dublin City Council. The trees will be collected between January 9th and January 28th on the day that normal household waste is collected in the area. Areas covered include Sandymount, Ringsend, Irishtown, Merrion, Ballsbridge, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Rathgar Terenure, Milltown, Clonskeagh and Donnybrook. In addition to this service people can dispose of their tree free of charge by dropping it off at collection points. These drop off points include Milltown Car Park, Sandymount Strand Carr Park, Rathmines Swimming Pool Car Park, Cook Street & Eamonn Ceannt Park, Crumlin. I would strongly encourage people to use this service; I think it will be of great benefit to both the people of Dublin and to the environment. With the support of the public the service will become a regular feature. To avail of the service residents simply buy a Christmas tree recycling label from local shops, they will be on sale from mid December." In conclusion Cllr. Doolan urged people, "to keep the environment in mind this year and support the pilot scheme by buying the labels early or drop their tree off at a collection point." |
