Sinn Fein Representative for Dublin South East Councillor Daithi Doolan tonight welcomed, "City Council's commitment to install fire alarms in on all their halting sites."

Speaking after tonight's Council meeting Cllr. Doolan said, "I am delighted that the City Council have unanimously adopted my motion calling for the installation of fire alarms in all caravans and homes on Council halting sites. It is a shame this had not been done sooner but to do so now will certainly save lives in the future.

I have also called on Management to fit alarms before Christmas as this is the most dangerous time for accidents with fires. We must avoid any repeat of the recent tragedy where 2 children died in a fire in their caravan in Clondalkin."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded, "all local authorities to follow the lead of Dublin City Council and install fire alarms as a matter of urgency. We can not let the traveling community live in substandard Council death traps a day longer."
