Doolan welcomes new health initiative for inner city

Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today welcomed, "the proposal to build a new health centre in the south inner city."

Speaking with residents in Pearse Street this morning, Cllr. Doolan said:

"This initiative is a great victory for those who have campaigned for years to have a community based health centre in this area. The proposal is being brought forward as part of a wider area regeneration of Pearse Street, it involves the sale of a City Council Maintenance Depot to the Health Service Executive for the provision of a health centre. The money, Euros 850,000, from the sale will then go towards funding the refurbishment of the City council flats, Markievicz House.

For too long our community has had to live without any health centre but that will now change, the services provided will go along way to improving the health of the local population. It is vital that other politicians support this initiative, I have advocated community based health care for many years. With enough at next Monday's council meeting support we can now make that a reality for this art of the inner city. "

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, demanded, "that the work commences as a matter of urgency and that the services provided meet the demand and quality this community deserves."
