Doolan-Public pay Euro 5M while report remains secretPublished: 24 October, 2005
Sinn Féin's Dublin Spokesperson on the Environment & Dublin South East Representative, Councillor Daithí Doolan, called, "for a full enquiry into why the Ringsend Water Treatment Plant will cost an extra Euro 5million next year while the report into it's management remains secret." Speaking in Ringsend today, Cllr. Doolan said: "Residents are very angry and dismayed by these events. It is totally unacceptable that the public will have to pay an additional Euros 5 million to eliminate the odours from a water treatment plant yet the problem is not of their making. The treatment plant was opened in 2003 at a cost of Euro 300m and proven to be nothing short of a disaster. The Public Private Partnership has been useless, and when it does not work it us the public who foot the bill to the tune of millions. "What makes it even more concerning is this is the model the City Management want to adopt for the building and management of the proposed incinerator in our community. To even ask us to even consider an incinerator in the current climate borders on the ridiculous. "Serious questions have been asked about the management of this Water Treatment Plant now it is time for serious answers from both city Council management and ABA Consortium who run the plant. Hiding behind secret reports is just not good enough." In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, called on City Management, "to stop hiding the truth in secret reports and come clean with the public." |
