Design apartments to minimise energy poverty-Doolan

Published: 16 September, 2007

Sinn Féin's Dublin Spokesperson on the Environment Cllr. Daithí Doolan today called on architects, designers and developers to make the maximum use of technological innovations to ensure that all new apartment developments minimise their carbon footprint.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's conference 'Successful Apartment Living-Combating Urban Sprawl' Cllr Doolan said

"Many experts worldwide are now saying that we have reached the point of "peak oil" where it will be increasingly difficult for new sources of oil to become available at prices below $80 a barrel. To minimise the threat of "energy poverty" I call on all involved in the planning and construction processes to work with all of our third level colleges and other centres of innovation to create apartment complexes that require the minimum amounts of energy to sustain a healthy living environment."
