Sinn Fein's Councillor Daithí Doolan has congratulated the residents of Ringsend who he says, "have answered the call to rally against drugs during their Drug Awareness Week."

Speaking ahead of tonight's Service of Remembrance Cllr. Doolan, a member of the Local Drugs Task Force, outlined:-

"The Ringsend & District Response to Drugs have organised a week long series of events to raise awareness about the causes and consequences of drug addiction. The events include tonight's service, a visit to local projects by Minister Pat Carey, public meetings, educational meetings, an art competition and exhibition, a football tournament, and a presentation night."

Cllr. Doolan continued, "this is a great example of how one inner city community has organised itself in a very positive way to combat drug addiction and all the pain and struggle that goes with it. Ringsend has got off its knees and tackled addiction head on."

Cllr. Doolan concluded by calling on the government "to increase funding and resources to communities and drug projects in their battle against cocaine addiction."
