Doolan-Sinn Féin delegation meets workers at BlindcraftPublished: 9 July, 2004 Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councilor Daithí Doolan, today called on the management of Blindcraft on Dublin's Davitt Road to "pull back from it's proposed closure of the factory."Mr. Doolan is leading a delegation of Sinn Féin City Councillors who plan to visit the factory at noon today, "to meet both unions representatives and staff in an effort to stop the closure of this factory. The factory employs 27 blind people and 8 sighted people. The factory was set up to provide employment to those pupils coming out of schools for the blind here in Dublin. It continues to provide a valuable service in the manufacture of beds and toiletries as well as providing employment to its staff." Mr. Doolan concluded, "it is imperative that the factory stays open and its staff are remain in full employment. I am calling on the Department of Health & Children to reverse their decision and gurantee the factory, the staff and their families a future." |
