Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, today, "congratulated the businesses and cultural groups in Temple Bar for the great effort in greening Temple Bar."

Speaking ahead of this evenings Temple Bar Green n Clean award ceremony, Cllr. Doolan said:

"Temple Bar Clean n Green competition is the joint effort of Dublin City Council and Traders in the Area Supporting the Cultural Quarter (TASC). It is a positive initiative which I am happy to support, it has motivated the businesses & cultural community here in Temple Bar to get involved in their local area. For far too long the dominant image of Temple Bar has been a negative one of lager louts roaming the streets, I hope this evening goes some way to changing that image. It is important that business plays a positive, active role in the city and this competition is one sure way of ensuring that happens. I hope other business and cultural organisations take up the challenge and organise similar events right across Dublin.

The competition itself has resulted in an overall improvement in the physical environment with the use of floral displays, cleanliness and improved paintwork. Award categories include Most Improved Shop Front, Best Cultural Centre and Best Pub."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan said, "this is a great example of how pooling resources and energy can result in improving the environment for residents and businesses in the centre of Dublin."
