Doolan supports residents protest against anti social behaviourPublished: 28 September, 2005 Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today pledged, "his support to the residents of Tom Kelly Road flats in their battle to protect themselves against anti social behaviour." Speaking at the protest organised by residents this morning, Cllr. Doolan said: "Anti social behaviour is a problem in all our communities, and the solution lies in our communities but we need support and assistance in tackling it. Today's protest is sending out a loud message, this community will not be bullied or silenced by those involved in anti social behaviour. I have worked with the residents over recent months in an attempt to highlight & tackle anti social behaviour here in Tom Kelly Road. But today's protest is borne out of shear frustration. Residents feel they are not being heard and that their concerns are not being addressed. I have initiated a series of meetings with City Council officials, Gardaí and residents themselves. The meetings have proven there is a will to work together at local level, but the residents now feel it is time the talking stopped and action was taken against these people who are making their lives a misery. We all have a responsibility to ensure our community is a safe community for everyone. Gardaí, City Council, politicians and residents must work in partnership to ensure anti social behaviour and criminal elements do not rule our communities. I will continue to play my full and active part in supporting the residents in reclaiming their flats and building a new future here in Dublin's inner city." In conclusion Cllr. Doolan called on the government, "to establish a task force here in Dublin's inner city, with a sole focus of tackling the causes and consequences of anti social behaviour. It has been ignored for too long, now it is time for action." |
