Dublin South East Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Doolan - Minister for Environment electioneering or delivering?

Published: 18 May, 2004

Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Daithí Doolan, speaking today in Pearse Street where Minister for Environment is announcing funding for the refurbishment of Pearse House,  "I hope the Minister is not simply electioneering with the announcement of the refurbishment. We have waited years for the funding and many of the local people cannot help but be cynical at the announcement coming only 3 weeks away from elections. Here in Dublin's inner city we have campaigned for years to have our flats refurbished and proper facilities put in, yet we have this announcement with all the usual fanfare, Minister's smiles, mercs and perks. I only hope that the Minster and indeed the government will actually deliver for the people here in Pearse Street."

Mr. Doolan said, "As a local resident of course I welcome this positive development, but I am also aware that communities right across this city have had funding withheld only to have it practically hand delivered by Fianna Fail Ministers. The question must be asked are they attempting to but votes yet again?"

Mr. Doolan concluded by calling on government Minister's, "to stop using needed funding as an election ploy and simply deliver what is ours as a right. It is our tax money simply being put back into our communities."   ENDS
