Current crisis in Peace Process needs to be addressedPublished: 3 July, 2004 Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councilor Daithí Doolan, called on the British government to fully reengage with the Peace Process. Speaking at the annual Jackie Griffith commemoration, Doolan claimed, "that the current impasse in the Peace Process goes to very core of Britain's relationship with Ireland and it's people. Britain continues to ignore the wishes of a majority of people on this island and their demand for the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. We voted for it and they ignore it. This is what has caused the current crisis. And let us be clear, it is a crisis." Mr. Doolan, addressing the Dublin Commemoration, pointed out, "that Britain can not continue to ignore the growth of Sinn Féin and the will of the Irish people. Recent elections have shown we are the only all Ireland alternative. We are the alternative to to the tired and jaded politics of cosy cartels, occupation and corruption. We are the only party who has the all Ireland dynamic that can do what previous generations have attempted to do. To negotiate a full and total British withdrawal while also building an radical, real and relevant alternative in all four corners of island. Sinn Féin aim to address the social and economic needs while also using our political strength to bring about unity, justice and peace on this island." Doolan concluded by calling on the Irish government to, "wake up and become proactive and work to bring about the changes needed to lay the foundation for a future based on self determination for the people on this island. Full dialogue and respect for all our mandates must be the cornerstone for all of this." |
