Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson & South East Representative, Cllr. Daithí Doolan, has slammed City Council management, for "spending public money on promote their incineration propaganda."

Speaking today in Ringsend, Cllr. Doolan said, "Management have announced that they are to host an open day in Ringsend on October 22nd to promote the plan for an incinerator here on the Poolbeg Peninsula. It is totally unacceptable that public money is being used to promote an incinerator that has been voted against by City Councilor's and has been excluded in the City Development Plan. To use public money to impose an incinerator would be a travesty of democracy and local government.

"Nobody doubts this city faces a waste crisis. It is vital that we put in place a comprehensive waste management plan that actually tackles the waste crisis this city faces. Sinn Féin along with NGOs, environmental and residents groups will continue to campaign for the adoption of a Zero Waste Strategy which aims to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste. New technology has actually removed the need for incineration and management need to embrace this zero waste concept rather than imposing incineration on the city."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded, "that if there are to be any more open days people should be afforded the opportunity to hear both sides of the argument and not just incineration propaganda."
