Dublin South East Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Government must release funding for new health services in Dublin - Doolan

Published: 11 July, 2007

Sinn Féin's Cllr. Daithí Doolan, along with Cllr. Criona Ni Dhailigh &
Aengus O'Snodaigh TD, met today with senior Health Service Executive
management to discuss the proposed development of the Old Meath Hospital,
Dublin 8.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr. Doolan said:

"I am happy with the progress made today. The proposal was first announced
in 2002 but lay dormant until Sinn Féin pushed to convene a meeting with the
HSE to discuss how we could best make the proposal a reality. The multi
million proposal is to expand on the services currently being provided on
the two local HSE sites in Cork Street and here at the Old Meath Hospital.
The additional services will include Primary Care Centres, sheltered
housing, day hospital for senior citizens, counselling services to tackle
cocaine addiction, family support services and a disability service which
will be the first of its kind in Leinster."

Cllr. Doolan explained,

"This will be a major step forward in the provision of health care for the
south side of Dublin. I expect to see full plans by October and the work
completed by 2010. We have a budget of 30m euro and any additional funding must
be forthcoming from the government."
