Dublin South East Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Doolan aims to save Ringsend jobs

Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson & Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today pledged, "to work to save a company under threat of closure because of the water treatment plant in Ringsend."

Speaking at this morning in Ringsend, Cllr. Doolan said:

"I was shocked yesterday to find out that a local builders supply company is set to close due to the constant foul odours coming from the water treatment plant here in Ringsend. I spoke to the management of the company, Ringsend Builders Supply Company, yesterday and expressed my concern at the forced closure. Management confirmed with me that the company were forced to close simply because customers would not shop in an area while the stench continues. Business is now so bad that the management feels they have no other option but to close and move to another part of Dublin. But I will do all I can to rectify the situation as a matter or urgency.

"I will be visiting the company today and will to find out at first hand how the current situation is affecting this company and to reiterate my support for both the staff and management. Ringsend has lost too much in recent years, in 2002 the Irish Glass Bottle Company shut its doors and now a local builders supply company is being forced out of the area. The City Management must assume responsibility for any of these job loses. Every time the issue of the foul smell is raised in City Council we are told that the problem is being sorted. Its now appears too late for these people's jobs. Quality of life and jobs appear expendable for this community. This is totally unacceptable to me and flies in the face of any confidence the public can have in the same management opening an incinerator in Ringsend."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, said , "I will be meeting with City Council Management on Friday and will demand urgent action and answers. I will not stand by and allow further job loses in Ringsend."
