Doolan slams City Council bullyboy tactics

Published: 29 June, 2004

Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councilor Daithí Doolan, has today slammed, "the bullyboy tactics employed by City Council management in scaring people into paying the bin charges."

Mr. Doolan said, "hundreds of residents awoke this morning to a letter from Legal & Trade, a private debt collectors company, threatening to take action if the outstanding  charges are not paid.

I spoke to several residents who are scared but also extremely angry that management have resorted to such tactics. This is a blatant attempt to bully law biding citizens into paying a tax which is opposed by 1000's of people. In fact it has become so unworkable that the Minister himself, Martin Cullen has called for a review of the situation. . "

Mr. Doolan concluded by calling on the City Management to, "to call off their bullyboys and stop scaring people into payment. These tactics should cease immediately, at least until the proposed review concludes in 2005. "   ENDS
