HSE has undermined Minister for Health - Doolan
Published: 14 May, 2007
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Election Candidate, Cllr. Daithí Doolan has
today revealed how the Minister for Health Mary Harney, in response to a
Parliamentary Question tabled by Sinn Féin, stated that no privatisation of
ambulance services could take place. Her position has been totally
undermined by the actions of the Health Services Executive.
Speaking this morning, Cllr. Doolan said,
"Sinn Féin has recently put a direct question to Minister Harney, asking her
to introduce legislation to prevent the privatisation of ambulance services.
She replied that no legislation was necessary, as no such plan existed. This
claim was rubbished yesterday by the HSE when it became clear that the
executive had already put the services out for tender."
Cllr. Doolan continued
"The public have a right to know who runs our healthcare services, is it
Minister Harney or is it faceless bureaucrats in the HSE? Any attempt to
privatise these essential services will be opposed by Sinn Féin."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded,
"The Minister for Health Mary Harney clarifies the situation, and guarantees
that all essential services remain in public ownership."
