Sinn Féin to oppose sale of land to Lansdowne developers-Doolan
Published: 30 March, 2007
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative Cllr. Daithí Doolan has warned
the developers of the proposed new Lansdowne Stadium that Sinn Féin will
oppose the sale of the riverbank along the River Dodder at this Monday's
Council meeting.
Speaking today from Sandymount Cllr. Doolan said
"The proposed sale of the land along the River Dodder to Lansdowne Road
Stadium Development Company is on Monday's South East Area Committee's
agenda. I am on public record as supporting the development of a new stadium
on the current site. Sinn Féin will not stand in the way of this development
as long as certain criteria are met. But it cannot be over emphasised the
level of local opposition there is to this multi million-euro development.
The residents of this area believe, and I agree, that their quality of life
will be eroded by this development and that their concerns have never been
addressed openly and honestly by the development company. The development
company continue to ignore the residents. This behaviour is unacceptable."
Cllr. Doolan outlined
"It is clear that Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company needs the
riverbank along the River Dodder for the development to commence. This will
require a majority vote in Dublin City Council. Sinn Féin is committed to
using our 10 votes wisely. On Monday I will be proposing that the City
Council oppose the sale of the riverbank for the development."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan
"The Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company must engage directly with
residents or the sale the river bank is off and unfortunately the
development will not proceed.‰"
