Residents concerns must be addressed before Lansdowne development startsˆ
Published: 22 March, 2007
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative Cllr. Daithí Doolan has given a
cautious welcome to the approval by An Bord Pleanála for the development of
Lansdowne Road Stadium.
Speaking today from Sandymount Cllr. Doolan said,
"I am on public record as supporting the development of a new stadium on the
current site. Sinn Féin will not stand in the way of this development as
long as certain criteria are met. But it cannot be over emphasised the level
of local opposition there is to this multi million euro development. The
residents of this area believe that there quality of life will be eroded by
this development and that their concerns have never been addressed openly
and honestly by the development company."
Cllr. Doolan outlined
"It is now clear that Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company needs the
riverbank along the River Dodder for the development to commence. This will
require a majority vote in Dublin City Council. Sinn Fein is committed to
using theirs 10 votes wisely. If we feel residents have not been treated in
the proper manner I will be proposing that the Sinn Fein Group oppose the
sale of the riverbank for the development. While if the development company
address the concerns of the local residents we will not stand in the way of
a national stadium being developed here in Lansdowne Road."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan urged
"The Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company to study An Bord Pleanala's
finding carefully and to respond to residents concerns in a constructive and
open manner otherwise there will be no deal on the riverbank."
