Doolan-Putting the spotlight on Dublin's economyPublished: 24 May, 2005
Sinn Féin's Dublin Spokesperson on Economic Development, Councillor Daithí Doolan, speaking at the Dublin Regional Authority conference has today highlighted, "the need to put the spot light on Dublin's economy and invest in our public services and strengthen the cities infrastructure." Speaking this morning, Cllr. Doolan said: "Dublin plays a crucial role in the island's economy, it remains a capital of inward investment. But this economic growth is now being undermined by the government's ongoing attacks on it's infrastructure. Our public transport system is under funded, an uncontrolled private rented sector, housing prices forcing families out of Dublin and a health care system in a shambles. The list is endless yet the government continues to sleep walk through the chaos. This chaos does not encourage companies to continue to invest in our economy. "Thriving economies need a strong infrastructure with accessible, reliable public services. Yet this government, with it's failed Thatcherite polices, continue in their attempt to sell of our services to the highest bidder for short term monetary gain. I hope today's conference will address these issues and that we are able to send a clear message to the government, do not ignore the needs of Dublin." In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, demanded the government, "to establish a regional task force with the aim to focus investment on public services, infrastructure and tackling the private rented sector & the housing crisis. This will be crucial if we are to sustain economic growth in the capital." |
