Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment and local government spokesperson, Councillor
Daithí Doolan, has today welcomed the designation of 16 Moore Street as a
National Monument.

Speaking from City Hall, Cllr. Doolan said:

"I am delighted that the Minister for the Environment and Local Government
Dick Roche is finally designating 16 Moore Street as a National Monument. I
would like to commend the Save 16 Moore Street campaign for their hard work
in ensuring that this important monument was saved. "

"Now that the Minister has taken the important step of designating 16 Moore
Street as a National Monument he must follow it up by releasing central
government funds to ensure that it is adequately refurbished and developed.
We have an opportunity to develop an historic quarter in this part of the
Capital City encompassing 16 Moore Street and the GPO. The very foundation
of this State owes itself to the activities that took place in this area and
an historic quarter would be a fitting tribute to the men and women of
1916."
