Doolan urges rejection of 10 story Trinity College tower

Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson & Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today called on fellow Councillors to reject the plans by Trinity College Dublin to build a tower block in the Pearse Street area.

Speaking ahead of today's Dublin South East Area Committee meeting, Cllr. Doolan said:

"I feel very strongly about this development. It's size is totally out of proportion to the local community. It will overshadow the residents in the nearby houses. This 10 story development must be rejected and Trinity College must rethink their approach to local development and redesign the tower block if it is ever to be accepted by councillors and residents."

Cllr. Doolan explains,

"The plan is for Trinity College to build a 10 story tower block to house commercial office space, retail units, student accommodation, a roof garden & lecture theatres. In no way are the residents or myself against the development of this area but development must take place in harmony with existing communities. This development simply is too big and will offer nothing to local people. I call on all local Councillors and City Council officials to reject the planned tower block and encourage Trinity to rethink their plans for the area."
