Council must take action to avoid mass flooding- Doolan

Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson & Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has called, "on Dublin City Council to outline how flooding in Dublin's inner city will be avoided following the issuing of serious flood warning by The Marine Institute."
Speaking this morning in Ringsend, Cllr. Doolan said:
"The residents in Ringsend once again face the threat of serious flooding. According to the Marine Institute we will experience unusually high tides here in Dublin on September 10th. This community was devastated in February 2002 when flooding caused widespread destruction in just 11 minutes."
Cllr. Doolan explains, "The City Council must now clearly outline what plan is in place to avoid a repeat of that terrible day in 2002. While I am well aware that there are long term plans to curtail flooding in Dublin we must now focus our energy on ensuring this immediate threat is averted. We know these high tides will occur, to bury their heads in the sand is not an option right now. Residents are demanding immediate action to protect their homes.
I have contacted Assistant City Manager Matt Twomey asking him to outline what plans are in place and I will also raise it at the forthcoming City Council meeting in September."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, demanded, "City Council to meet with local City Councillors and the residents to discuss plans on how flooding will be avoided this time round."
