Fire Safety Study is another publicity stunt-Doolan

Sinn Féin's Dublin Spokesperson on the Environment, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today accused Fingal County Council as being involved in a publicity stunt, "the fact that Fingal County Council claimed that a fire risk assessment would be carried out yet no starting date has been given, no terms of reference outlined, even Dublin Fire Brigade have yet to be notified about this study."
Speaking today following a meeting with local Fingal County Councillor Felix Gallagher, Cllr. Doolan said:
"Fingal has seen a doubling in population since 1985, the largest chemical plant in the state has been built here, the construction of the Port Tunnel yet no Fire Cover Study has been carried out. This is clearly putting the public at risk. Yet now because of public pressure Fingal County Council have stated they will carry out such an assessment. But unfortunately it more of a publicity stunt that a real commitment. No start date has been given, no terms of reference given, no consultation with Dublin Fire Brigade, no consultation with Councillors.
At a recent meeting with senior Dublin Fire Brigade representatives the fire fighters confirmed that they had yet to be even told about the County Council's commitment to a Fire Cover Study never mind being consulted with.
This is totally unacceptable, that a local authority can simply issue such a statement without any serious follow up. It also true that any adequate Fire Cover Study must be carried out on a citywide basis. To simply confine it to Fingal continues to leave the rest of the City at risk."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan called on, "the incoming City Manager John Tierney to prioritise the health and safety of the public and to meet with Dublin Fire Brigade and commence a citywide Fire Cover Study."
