Doolan welcomes funding for local schools

Published: 8 March, 2005

Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative, Councillor Daithí Doolan,
welcomed, ''funding being made available from the Department of Education for
upgrading of facilities and structures in our schools.''

Speaking in Rathmines today, Cllr. Doolan said, ''this funding is a positive
and welcome development. Many of our schools are in dire need of finance so as
to maintain the high level of education being provided. The work which
commences this summer will cover a wide range of issues, including upgrading
and replacement of windows, electrical work, toilets and roofs.''

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan called on the Department to ensure, ''That process
needs to be the start of a long-term funding programme for our schools which is
reviewed on a regular basis and modified to meet extra needs.'' ENDS
