Gales Create Concern for Ringsend Residents

Published: 3 February, 2004

Speaking at the site of the recently collapsed crane in Ringsend, Sinn Féin's Daithí Doolan expressed concern that today's gale force winds is causing "deep concern for the local community. We have witnessed one serious crane accident over the weekend, these winds are raising the prospect of another accident."

Meeting residents tonight, Doolan will be calling on Zoe Developers to come clean on important questions; "When did they buy these cranes, from whom did they but them and what guarantees were given on the safety of these cranes? Answers to these questions will have serious implications for all those involved, most importantly for those living in the shadows of the giant cranes.

Residents here in Ringsend have continued to guarantees to meet Zoe Developers only to be meet with a deep silence. This silence must end, and it must end now. Zoe must cease the use of these cranes and enter open discussions with local residents.

We need public guarantees from developers that strict EU guidelines must be adhered to if they are going to use these cranes. Until such guarantees are given no crane should be used in a residential area like Ringsend."

The residents' meeting tonight will be taking place at 8:30pm. This meeting will be followed by a public meeting tomorrow night.

Doolan concluded by ensuring residents that "He will be pursuing Zoe Developers to ensure that communities can rest safely in their homes without the fear of further accidents."
