City Council demand meeting with Dublin Bus - Doolan

Published: 10 February, 2009

Sinn Féin's Councillor Daithí Doolan has today urged Dublin Bus management to respond positively to his motion which was passed by City Council's Dublin South East Area Committee requesting a meeting with Dublin Bus to discuss the proposed cuts to the city's bus service

Speaking today, Cllr. Doolan said:

'The proposed cuts in Dublin Bus will have a disastrous affect in this city. The cuts will force more cars on to the road, leading to further traffic chaos and pollution. Here in Dublin 4 over 40 buses will be taken out of service if the Minister's cost cutting plans are realised. This will amount to nearly 400 bus journeys being lost.'

Cllr. Doolan explained:
'It has emerged that there has been no consultation with Dublin City Council about cuts to the bus service. This is totally unacceptable. Councillors represent the public who will be most affected by a reduced bus service. My motion is an attempt to ensure the management of Dublin Bus are held to account for their actions.'

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded:

'That Dublin Bus fully engage with Dublin City Council and explain why the citizens of Dublin face a reduced bus service from March 1st.'
