Crane Accident Report Should be PublishedPublished: 4 February, 2004 Speaking ahead of this evening's public meeting in Ringsend, Sinn Féin's Daithí Doolan called on the Health and Safety Authority to "publish the report on the circumstances in which a crane partially crashed on Sunday last." The public meeting has been organised by the local residents who have been directly effected by the accident. Doolan claims that, "to assure residents that the future is safe any report compiled by the Health and Safety Authority needs to be presented to the public. This community, like so many others in Dublin, live in the shadows of these industrial cranes. We now know they are not beyond danger. Residents need to know and are entitled to know what is really going on on these building sites. So far Danniger Ltd has chosen to ignore the residents of Ringsend. No longer will this be tolerated. People are angry but determined to challenge this company. I have spoken to residents and attended meetings over recent days. Tonight's meeting is about offering mutual support and ensuring that this community remains united and committed to tackling problems on this building site." Doolan concluded by saying, "people are entitled to live in safety in their homes and the Health and Safety Authority play a key role in the process. Any report on this serious accident must be put in the public domain." |
