Doolan demands City Council call off bully boys

Published: 17 December, 2004

Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today demanded , "that City Council management call off their bullyboy, debt collecting tactics."

Speaking in Dublin today, Cllr. Doolan said, "management in Dublin City Council are employing Dickinsian tactics by contracting Legal & Trade debt collectors to threaten residents in the run up to Christmas with court unless they immediately pay their bin charges. This is the same Council management that were found guilty by Justice Lyndsey of wrongfully imposing bin charges in 2001 & 2002. It beggars belief how management can threaten residents to pay a debt that has already been ruled out of order by the courts. I have received calls from residents right across Dublin who are very scared and distressed by the letters they have received from Legal & Trade. These threats must stop."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan  demanded, "that the City Council call off their bullyboy, debt collecting tactics and let the people enjoy Christmas without the threat of being brought to court." ENDS
